Gathering is a one-of-one wearable work composed from accumulated buttons and blended thread. The buttons, collected across three generations of women in the artist's family, bring histories of use, adornment, and personal association into a single evolving composition.
The necklace expands to allow the work to be put on and removed without a clasp. Its flexible construction allows it to shift naturally with the wearer, while the 3 × 3 in. pendant remains permanently attached as an integral part of the necklace.
The pendant gathers disparate buttons, forms, and materials into a compact composition—each element retaining something of its own history while becoming part of something new.
As with many KAMILLEON works, the object invites participation rather than prescribing a single way of being experienced. Its relationship to the body, and to the other KAMILLEON works worn with it, is part of the work's unfolding.
