Embrace is a one-of-one sculptural chair in which structure, textile, and the body come into relationship.
A hand-painted metal frame supports a woven natural reed structure, while crocheted velvet creates a soft, tactile surface for the body. The sweeping curves of the back and seat create an enveloping gesture, allowing the chair to function simultaneously as seating and as a sculptural form.
The work explores the meeting of opposing qualities: rigid and yielding, structured and organic, durable and soft. Materials traditionally associated with furniture and fiber work are brought together so that utility becomes inseparable from the visual and tactile experience of the object.
The generous scoop invites the body to find its own position. Relax into it, curl up with an animal, settle into a lotus position, or simply make it yours. The chair is designed not to dictate how it should be occupied, but to invite discovery through the body.
Designed to be lived with, Embrace asks the body to participate. Sitting in the work changes its meaning from an object viewed at a distance into an object encountered through touch, weight, position, and rest.
As with many KAMILLEON works, the boundary between artwork and use remains intentionally open. The chair can be approached as furniture, sculpture, or both—the distinction ultimately belonging to the person who lives with it.
Each KAMILLEON work is made individually; no work is replicated.
Materials: Woven natural reed, hand-painted metal, crocheted velvet
Dimensions: 31 in. high × 28 in. wide; 17 in. seat height
