Converse is a one-of-one pair of sculptural chairs that brings seating, textile, and material exploration into a single work.
Crocheted cotton and novelty fibers are woven together with metal, transforming familiar materials into a tactile structure designed to support the body. The chairs retain the directness of functional furniture while occupying the space between seating and contemporary textile sculpture.
Created as a pair, the chairs establish a space for relationship. Used individually, each creates a distinct place to sit; together, they invite conversation, gathering, and the shared experience of a room.
The work reflects a central KAMILLEON interest in juxtaposition: soft and rigid, handmade and structural, utility and art. Materials more commonly associated with fiber work meet woven metal to create something neither material could become on its own.
The chairs are intended to be lived with. Their function is not separate from the artwork; sitting, gathering, moving around them, and incorporating them into a room become part of the experience of the work.
